Tour description

An easily accessible practice via ferrata right by the reservoir in Latschau, which is also suitable for beginners.

Located right next to the reservoir in Latschau, the practice via ferrata (A/B) at the Latschau climbing area is the ideal place for people of all ages to practice using a via ferrata set and climbing via ferrata routes. We recommend tackling it as a loop starting from the left and heading right, during which you’ll also cross two small rope bridges. You can exit (head back up) at any time. Plus, the view of nearby Zimba—the Matterhorn of the Montafon—is a real draw.

Access

From the Golmerbahn Latschau parking lot, walk along the lake to the prominent, easily visible rock on the opposite eastern shore. The start of the via ferrata is located right there.

Route Description

This short via ferrata is easily accessible and ideal for families and beginners. The difficulty level is consistently A/B. Since the rock face is clearly visible, family members or companions who do not wish to climb themselves can comfortably watch the via ferrata from below.

Descent

The return trip to the car follows the same route along the lake back to the Golmerbahn mid-station. Alternatively, you can “fly” back to the starting point directly across the reservoir using the Flying Fox Golm.

Getting to the starting point

By public transportation:

With the Landbus Montafon and the Montafonerbahn, you can get around the valley comfortably and flexibly. Trains and buses connect the towns regularly, every half hour or hourly depending on the route. You can find the right connection here. Bus stop at the start/end of this tour: Latschau Golmerbahn

By car:

Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit, then follow the Montafonerstraße L188 to Tschagguns and continue to Latschau to the mid-station of the Golmerbahn.

Important Information

You climb the via ferrata at your own risk and responsibility. Please check the weather, current conditions, snow conditions, and difficulty level in advance. Realistically assess your experience, sure-footedness, ability to handle heights, and physical fitness.

Complete, standard-compliant via ferrata equipment is absolutely essential. This includes a hip belt, via ferrata set, helmet, and gloves. Equally important is appropriate footwear: sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots with good traction.

Your backpack should also include sufficient food, sun and rain protection, and a first-aid kit.

In the Montafon, you can rent high-quality via ferrata equipment at select sports shops. Please check in advance regarding availability, sizes, and reservation options.

Useful tips

In addition to the many climbing routes at the Latschau Climbing Garden, the Golm Forest Rope Park, the Golm Flying Fox, and the Golm Alpine Coaster, all located nearby, round out the action-packed lineup.

This practice via ferrata can also be booked as a guided tour as part of the BergePLUS program. For more information, visit montafon.at/bergeplus
